Meet the Organizers: Kentucky Conservation Committee (Foundation)
The Kentucky Conservation Committee, through its Foundation, supports environmental public interest, conservation, and education efforts in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Conservation Foundation sponsors environmental education work in partnership with the Kentucky Conservation Committee, a state-based conservation and policy collaborative established in 1975 and now one of the longest-running conservation advocacy organizations in Kentucky. Our goals include enhancing and protecting the Commonwealth’s rich biodiversity, educating the public on land conservation issues, promoting sustainable use of energy, and alerting the public to health issues involving extreme energy extraction.
KCF has commissioned research on biodiversity issues, including the need for an Integrated Plan to remove exotic species, promote the use of native species, and maintain healthy plant communities, which are vital for the state.
Our collective work includes research and support on energy issues, including efficiency and cleaner energy options. In addition, the foundation drives and supports clean energy work through policies developed through the Kentucky Sustainable Energy Alliance and other coalitions.
And we support land conservation in Kentucky, as well as waterways protection; in Kentucky, 68% of rivers and streams are considered impaired as “primary contact recreation water,” meaning people cannot swim in them without risk of adverse human health effects.
Kentucky Conservation supports powerful and innovative programs to build capacity for communities in Kentucky to build a cleaner and more sustainable future. We also provide support for environmental public interest, conservation, and education efforts around Kentucky’s unique biodiversity, Kentucky-based land conservation and land-use projects, opportunities for clean energy initiatives in Kentucky, public-interest advocacy for addressing the impacts of water and air pollution, and promotion of clean energy solutions.
