But don’t overlook all the fun to be enjoyed while at the ! The whole family can get their steps in while participating in the 5K walk through beautiful Iroquois Park. The walk course takes advantage of the beauty of the park in springtime. How many wildflowers can you spot while on the walk? Do you hear a song bird proclaiming the season? Look closely at the budding trees for pollinators buzzing among the blooms. You might learn that your 4th grader can identify trees and your uncle does a great imitation of birdsong. Walking in nature provides a chance to connect with family members on levels that surprise and delight.
Pre and post walk times offer a chance for children to connect in the dedicated nature play area. The Jefferson Memorial Forest’s ECHO Mobile, a portable outdoor nature play center will be on site. Here walkers from 3 – 11 years old can explore a variety of natural materials and nature play opportunities.
Your family will enjoy local musicians during our post-walk celebration. Appearing at this summer’s Forecastle Festival, Ryan Anderson of Bendigo Fletcher and the amazingly talented duo, Griffytown will welcome walkers returning from the course..
The Louisville Earth Walk is an opportunity for families to learn how to be good stewards of our natural resources. Signs placed throughout the walk course will inform family members about ways to save on utility bills by reducing energy consumption, gardening and growing tips, and simple habits to adopt to conserve water. Challenge your family members to select an Earth friendly habit they will initiate at home. Which family can reduce their utility bill or water bill by the largest percentage?
As you can see, fun for the whole family. Register your TEAM today! Louisvilleearthwalk.org.
